CORONACH, by Sir Walter Scott

Coronach, by Sir Water Scott
He is gone on the mountain,
He is lost to the forest,
Like a summer-dried fountain,
When our need was the sorest.
The font reappearing
    From the raindrops shall borrow,
But to us comes no cheering,
    To Duncan no morrow!

The hand of the reaper
Takes the ears that are hoary,
But the voice of the weeper
    Wails manhood in glory.
The autumn winds rushing
Waft the leaves that are serest,
But our flower was in flushing
    When blighting was nearest.

Fleet foot on the correi,
    Sage counsel in cumber,
Red hand in the foray,
    How sound is thy slumber!

Like the dew on the mountain,
Like the foam on the river,
Like the bubble on the fountain,
Thou art gone, and for ever!

A Picture I may have Given Away -- or maybe not!

I had thought I had this picture on the wall outside my door here at 2960, where I live in unit 2609. I thought I got it at an art fair. I really liked it but maybe I gave it away.  I cannot remember.  It was landscape by somone named Shirley Lindenberg or maybe Lindenbaum. Or something like that. Or maybe I never owned it.  This is a dilemma for me.  I am not sure how it got there.  But perhaps I can look at it right next door at 2608!  But today (December 26, 2023) it is not there.  So here it is:

Let me go 'way from de Mississippi, Let me go 'way from de white men boss, Show me dat stream called de river Jordan, Dat's de ol' stream dat I long to cross. Ol' man river, dat ol' man river He must know sumpin', but don't say nothin'; He jus' keeps rollin' He keeps on rollin' along. He don't plant taters, he don' plant cotton, An' dem dat plants `em is soon forgotten; But ol' man river He jus' keeps rollin' along. THE ROSE, BY AMANDA McBROOM AND AS PERFORMED BY BETTE MIDLER

  • Some say love, it is a river
  • That drowns the tender reed
  • Some say love, it is a razor
  • That leaves your soul to bleed
  • Some say love, it is a hunger
  • An endless aching need
  • I say love, it is a flower
  • And you, its only seed
  • It's the heart afraid of breaking
  • That never learns to dance
  • It's the dream afraid of waking
  • That never takes the chance
  • It's the one who won't be taken
  • Who cannot seem to give
  • And the soul afraid of dying
  • That never learns to live
  • When the night has been too lonely
  • And the road has been too long
  • And you think that love is only
  • For the lucky and the strong
  • Just remember in the winter
  • Far beneath the bitter snows
  • Lies the seed that with the sun's love
  • In the spring becomes the rose

WHEN I LEAVE THIS WORLD BEHIND

When I Leave this World Behind

When I leave this World Behind

https://digitalcommons.conncoll.edu/sheetmusic/1570/.

Lyrics

1st verse:
I know a millionaire,
Who's burdened down with care,
A load is on his mind.
He's thinking of the day
When he must pass away
And leave his wealth behind.
I haven't any gold
To leave when I grow old,
Somehow it passed me by.
I'm very poor, but still
I'll leave a precious will
When I must say goodbye.

Chorus:
I'll leave the sunshine to the flowers,
I'll leave the spring time to the trees;
And to the old folks I'll leave the mem'ries
Of a baby upon their knees.
I'll leave the night time to the dreamers,
I'll leave the song birds to the blind;
I'll leave the moon above to those in love,
When I leave the world behind,
When I leave the world behind.

2nd verse:
To ev'ry wrinkled face
I'l leave a fireplace,
To paint their fav'rite scene,
Within the golden rays,
Scenes of their childhood days,
When they were sweet sixteen.
I'll leave them each a song
To sing the whole day long,
As toward the end they plod.
To ev'ry broken heart
With sorrow torn apart,
I'll leave the love of God.

WINDMILLS OF YOUR MIND

Music by Michel Legrand. Originally Performed by Noel Harris

"The Windmills of Your Mind" is a song with music by French composer Michel Legrand and English lyrics written by Americans Alan and Marilyn Bergman.

  • The Windmills of Your Mind

  • Dusty Springfield
Songwriters: Legrand Michel Jean, Bergman Alan, Bergman Marilyn
  • Like a circle in a spiral
  • Like a wheel within a wheel
  • Never ending or beginning
  • On an ever spinning reel
  • Like a snowball down a mountain
  • Or a carnival balloon
  • Like a carousel that's turning
  • Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
  • Past the minutes of its face
  • And the world is like an apple
  • Whirling silently in space
  • Like the circles that you find
  • In the windmills of your mind!
  • Like a tunnel that you follow
  • To a tunnel of its own
  • Down a hollow to a cavern
  • Where the sun has never shone,
  • Like a door that keeps revolving
  • In a half forgotten dream,
  • Or the ripples from a pebble
  • Someone tosses in a stream
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping,
  • past the minute of its face,
  • and the world is like an apple whirling endlessly in space,
  • Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind.
  • Keys that jingle in your pocket
  • Words that jangle in your head
  • Why did summer go so quickly?
  • Was it something that you said?
  • Lovers walk along a shore
  • And leave their footprints in the sand
Is the sound of distant drumming
  • Just the fingers of your hand?
  • Pictures hanging in a hallway
  • And the fragment of a song
  • Half remembered names and faces
  • But to whom do they belong?
  • He: when you knew
  • That it was over
  • You were suddenly aware
  • That the autumn leaves were turning
  • To the color
  • Of her hair!
  • She: when you knew
  • That it was over
  • In the autumn of goodbyes
  • For a moment
  • You could not recall the color
  • Of his eyes!
  • Like a circle in a spiral
  • Like a wheel within a wheel
  • Never ending or beginning
  • On an ever spinning reel
    As the images unwind
  • Like the circles
  • That you find In the windmills of your mind!
