A 2023 NEW YEAR FOR MY FAMILY

I hope the year 2023,
Had times of joy — and even glee!
I wish you all of that, and more!
As we embark on ’24!
England crowned a brand new King,
But COVID kept on with its sting,
Some banks took a major hit,
But Piggy Banks will never quit!

Way too much to bring up here,
So this just comes to wish you cheer —
I wish you joy and also wealth,
And most of all a year of health!

With Every Good Wish,

Love, Mom/Grandma

THEY'RE RIOTNG IN AFRICA

THEY'RE RIOTING IN AFRICA (THE MERRY MINUET)

(Written by Sheldon Harnick)

They're rioting in Africa
They're starving in Spain
There's hurricanes in Florida
And Texas needs rain.

The whole world is festering
With unhappy souls
The French hate the Germans,
The Germans hate the Poles

Italians hate Yugoslavs
South Africans hate the Dutch
And I don't like anybody very much

But we can be grateful
And thankful and proud
That man's been endowed
With a mushroom shaped cloud

And we know for certain
That some happy day
Someone will set the spark off
And we will all be blown away

They're rioting in Africa
There's strife in Iran
What nature doesn't do to us
Will be done by our fellow man.

THIS IS THE ARMY by IVRING BERLIN

https://genius.com/Irving-berlin-this-is-the-army-mr-jones-lyrics

[Verse:]

We all have been selected from city and from farm

They asked us lots of questions, they jabbed us in the arm

We stood there at attention, our faces turning red

The sergeant looked us over and this is what he said:

[Refrain:]

This is the Army, Mister Jones

No private rooms or telephones

You had your breakfast in bed before

But you won't have it there any more

This is the Army, Mister Green

We like the barracks nice and clean

You had a housemaid to clean your floor

But she won't help you out any more

Do what the buglers command

They're in the Army and not in a band

This is the Army, Mister Brown

You and your baby went to town

She had you worried but this is war

And she won't worry you anymore

[Alternate verse from sheet music:]

A bunch of frightened rookies were list'ning filled with awe

They listened while a sergeant was laying down the law

They stood there at attention, their faces turning red

The sergeant looked them over and this is what he said

MY POEM TO MYSELF

While fighting off senility,

To best of my ability,

It may sound like banality,

To say that rationality,

Is something that I seem to lack.

My skull is like an empty sack!

Thoughts follow scattered unknown trails,

Like a train run off the rails!

They wander off to who knows where?

Then pop up sometimes here or there!

An idiot's tale of sound and fury?

The Bard spoke well, so what’s my hurry?

HOW I FEEL A LOT OF THE TIME

This is how I often feel as my physical and mental abilities diminish.   Everything feels hazardous because forgetting some things is annoying, embarrassing and even dangerous!
